Wonder # 2 Thailand is ancient history and monumental heritage
Temples, ruins, and museums in Thailand are everywhere. From Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand to Chiang Rai on the border with Laos and Burma.
In Ayutthaya Historical Park , over 600 years old and a World Heritage Site, you'll find the spectacular Wat Chaiwathanaram and Wat Phra Srisampetch temples. Ayutthaya was once the capital of the Kingdom of Siam.
If you continue to Lopburi you will visit the Monkey Temple and the ruins of the Wat Phra Sri Ratana Maha That and Prang Sam Yod temples. And get ready because in the Temple of the Monkeys you will see monkeys up, down, left and right, everywhere!

Another important destination is Phitsanuloke. In its temple Wat Phra Sri Ratana Mahathat resides a Buddha in Gold, which for many is the most beautiful Buddha in Thailand. Among other very important places, do not forget to visit the Wat Ratchaburana (a place where sacred relics of the Buddha are said to rest) and the Sanctuary of King Naresuan the Great.
A key place in the history of Thailand is the Sukhothai Historical Park, also a World Heritage Site. If in Phitsanuloke you met a Golden Buddha then in Sukhothai you will meet the great White Buddha of Wat Sri Chum. Enjoy walking through the gardens, let yourself be enchanted by the mysticism of its ruins and the tranquility of its peaceful lakes.
If you find yourself in Chiang Rai "the gate of the Golden Triangle" then cross the river on the border with Laos and visit the Opium Museum. In this place you will understand what the exploitation of opium has represented throughout the region, both culturally and economically. Two other places that you cannot leave out on your tour of Chiang Rai are the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) and The Black House (Ban daam Museum), which although they are contemporary constructions, are architectural and artistic proposals that evoke the past from a modern look.
And due to its importance, it is mandatory to mention Chiang Mai , where the Wat Doi Suthep is located, a Buddhist pilgrimage temple and one of the busiest in Thailand. Climb its 309 steps and gain a spectacular panoramic view from the top of the mountain.
